Mentors, especially men, are needed for the Big Brother/Big Sister Program in Bryan County.
Mentors must be at least 19 years old, dedicate four hours a month to the child for a year and go through training and a background check. The person would provide at least three references and an in person interview.
Anyone interested in becoming a mentor for the program can call 912-233-7669.

Friday on the Train
A free community event, Friday on the Train, is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday in the Station Exchange complex on Ford Avenue in Richmond Hill.
The event will include live music from Nashville performer Wally Brown, open mic auditions for a future local music event, bounce houses for kids and more. Local businesses, like The Ice Cream Stop will be on hand, as well.
Friday on the Train will take place on the third Friday of each month through September. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

Installation service
Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church will hold an installation service for its new church pastor. The investiture of Pastor-Elect Henrietta B. Lovett will be at 5 p.m. May 19.
The Rev. Matthew Southall Brown, pastor emeritus at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah, will be the guest speaker, and a reception in the Fellowship Hall will follow the service.

Asperger support
The Richmond Hill Asperger support group will meet at 7 p.m. May 21 in the community room of the Richmond Hill Public Library. For more information, email rhaspergergroup@aol.com.

Library meeting
The Bryan County Library Board’s meeting set for Wednesday has been rescheduled. The board will instead meet at 5 p.m. May 21 at the Richmond Hill Public Library.
The board’s Building Committee will have its next meeting at 5:30 p.m. May 17 at the Richmond Hill Public Library.
All Bryan County Library Board meetings are opening to the public.

Memorial Day observance
The city of Richmond Hill will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. May 27 in J.F. Gregory Park.
The guest speaker will be Lt. Col. Neal Corson, commander of the 2-3 Brigade Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart. Other speakers will include representatives from the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Vietnam Veteran of America.
The event will close with a laying-of-the-wreath ceremony and a 21-gun salute.

Fort McAllister
Join the troops at Fort McAllister State Historic Park from 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. May 25 in a Civil War salute to our fallen heroes.
The Memorial Day commemoration will consist of multiple cannon and musket firings, blacksmithing and other common work done by Confederate and Union soldiers. Help remember those that have sacrificed so much to ensure rights of liberty, justice and freedom.
Cost for adults is $6.50, seniors $6, youth $3.50 and children under 6 are free.
