The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill reminds local high school students of its May 24 deadline for applications for two college scholarships worth a total of $3,000.
The first scholarship, worth $2,000, was established in memory of Jay D. Gardner, a charter member of the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill as well as lawyer, judge and state legislator.
The second fund, the Mary Bean Memorial Technical College Scholarship, worth $1,000, honors the memory of a local business woman, wife and mother.
Both scholarships are awarded annually to a member of the graduating class of Richmond Hill High School without regard to race, religion, sex, national origin or ancestry. The Gardner scholarship also is renewable by students who have maintained their grades during the first year of college.
“We are keen to ensure that every high school student is aware of this scholarship opportunity, as our Rotary Club is committed to supporting young people in pursuing their studies and in achieving their life goals,” club board member Ted Flake said.
Application forms are available at RHHS or from the club. Recipients will be be awarded at the annual meeting June 26.
