Bryan County Schools recently conducted their annual Young Georgia Authors Writing competition.
This competition has been engaging Georgia students for more than two decades and is open to any student currently enrolled in Georgia public schools, grades K -12.
The competition is co-sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education and the Georgia Council of Teachers of English.
According to the Georgia DOE’s website, the competition’s purpose is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics.
BCSS winners for the district were:
Kindergarten: Cathryn Martin, “The Big Red Pony” (Richmond Hill Primary School)
First grade: Elena Rosmussen, “The Talking Tooth” (Richmond Hill Primary School)
Second grade: Nickolas Langes, “The Day I Woke Up and the Sun Didn’t Shine” (Lanier Primary School)
Third grade: Annabell Hartley, “Super Spy” (Richmond Hill Elementary School)
Fourth grade: Sarah Pugsley, “I’m A Dog” (George Washington Carver Elementary School)
Fifth grade: Alexandria Gholston, “A Better Place” (Bryan County Elementary School)
Sixth grade: Rosie Walker, “When the Cricket Sings Again” (Bryan County Middle School)
Seventh grade: Christian Maude, “Strong Currents” (BCMS)
Eighth grade: Avery Waters, “My Personal Sin” (Richmond Hill Middle School)
Ninth grade: Josephine Suss, “Far From Home” (Bryan County High School
11th grade: Alyssa Scarboro, “Shannon” (Richmond Hill High School)
12th grade: Emily Pearson, “A Slightly King” (RHHS)
The state-level winners will be announced about noon May 17 on the Georgia DOE English Language Arts website and the GCTE website.
