Everything has a beginning.

For Bryan County High School’s soccer program, the beginning is now.

Armed with rosters of 32 boys and 30 girls, the Redskins and Lady Redskins are gearing up for their debut seasons, which get under way Monday at Long County.

And while the program is so new it doesn’t even have its own page on the school website, so far, it’s all been good, according to coach Al Butler, who will lead both teams.

"We had our first conditioning practice (Jan. 28)," he said. "I was very excited to see the faces of what will make up our squad for this year. I see a lot of athleticism that will help us compete and also a lot of good kids with the heart and determination we will need to master our goals for this first season."

Those goals are about what you might expect for a first-year program. It’s all about learning the curve.

"As a beginning program in a strong Class AA soccer league, our goal is to learn as much as we can about our kids and where we stand as a program right now," Butler said.
