Josh Fenn, executive director of the Bryan County Development Authority, addressed the Richmond Hill Lions Club on Jan. 24 during its meeting at the Masonic Lodge in Richmond Hill.
The nine-member Development Authority is the recruitment and economic-development arm of the county government.
Fenn presented a slideshow of what is going on in the community. He said that the unofficial motto of the county is “One County One Voice,” meaning North and South Bryan are represented as one complete county and not separate units, which presents a united front for prospective industry planning to come into Bryan.
He said that Bryan is one of the fastest growing counties in Georgia and has the lowest millage rate in the area, and added that Bryan also has one of the strongest school systems in the state. Other strengths of the county include rail lines, interstates 95 and 16, the close access to the Port of Savannah — all of which are important to manufacturing and distribution of goods. Plans are for a future interchange at Belfast when funds are available.
Fenn said that bringing industry into the area would create jobs for county residents and explained the importance of working, shopping, living and playing in the county for a strong tax base that benefits schools and more.
In other club business, Chip Nedza donated a 1963 brass bell to the club. He is the second vice district governor of District 18-B in Georgia. The club plans to build a meeting hall in the near future, and the bell was made the year that the club was chartered. The 50th anniversary of the club’s charter is March 19.
