With 46 years in the banking industry, First Bank of Coastal Georgia Senior Vice President Nevin Patton III has decided to retire.
Patton, who has held his position with the bank at its Richmond Hill branch for 15 years, will officially step down Dec. 31, according to a press release from the bank.
Patton said Monday his plans for after retirement are to relax and focus on his health. He said he has enjoyed his time working with the bank.
“It’s been an enjoyable living in Richmond Hill and getting to know people here and seeing it develop,” Patton said. “It had developed a lot when I moved here, but a lot has happened since then, too.
“Just getting to know the people in the area and seeing what’s happened has all been very wonderful.”
Patton was a member of First Bank of Coastal Georgia’s management and lending team and was also active in the community. He served in various service organizations and boards, such as the United Way, YMCA, Rotary Club of Richmond Hill, the Coastal Tree Foundation, Richmond Hill-Bryan County Chamber of Commerce and the Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival planning committee.
Patton’s banking career began in 1966 in Atlanta with the Trust Company of Georgia, now SunTrust Bank. In 1971, he returned to his hometown of Rome and worked for Rome Bank and Trust Company, a small community bank similar to First Bank of Coastal Georgia. That bank was later purchased by Citizens and Southern Bank, or Bank of America, Patton said.
Patton and his wife, Rena, have raised three children, Nevin Patton IV, Katie Patton and Ivy Patton. Nevin Patton will continue to reside in Richmond Hill.
A reception for Patton is from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 19 at the Richmond Hill location of First Bank of Coastal Georgia on Ford Avenue.
