The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development and the Georgia Department of Labor will host the Georgia Jobs for Veterans Career Expo from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.

The expo, which is free of charge for participating employers, is an opportunity for Georgia’s employers to fulfill hiring needs with qualified veterans.

“These men and women have boldly represented freedom around the world and the United States,” said Tricia Pridemore, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development.

“We encourage all Georgia employers to help these heroes acquire meaningful employment and career paths to successful civilian life.”

While the expo is designed for veterans, it is open to the general public.

The expo will include an employer’s meet-and-greet to prescreen job seekers at their booths in order to review veteran’s résumés and applications.  Employers also will be able to conduct on-site interviews.

“Helping veterans find jobs is the No. 1 priority of this administration,” state Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said.  “As the father of a veteran, I know all too well the sacrifices our servicemen and women make to keep this country safe. We should return the favor by finding ways to help them find their place in the workforce.”

During the expo, GDOL staff will provide a variety of services to help attendees in their job searches.  The services include assistance in transferring military experience and skills to the civilian job market, and workshops on topics such as “How To Use Social Media In Your Job Search,” “Interviewing Tips and Strategies,” and “Resume Preparation.”

Approximately 50 agencies and organizations will participate.

Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately to improve their opportunities for getting a job.

Any employers interested participating can contact Steve Jennings by calling 404-232-3510 or Steve.Jennings@gdol.ga.gov.
