ATHENS — Applications for the 2013 Environmental Quality Incentives Program are due by Nov. 2 to be considered for funding in fiscal year 2013.

James E. Tillman, state conservationist for the Department of Agriculture’s Natural-Resources Conservation Service in Georgia, recently made the announcement.

The voluntary program funds conservation practices based on state-identified natural-resource concerns such as forestry, grazing, soil erosion, water conservation and water quality.

There are about 60 program conservation practices including, but not limited to: pasture and hay-land planting, heavy-use areas, waste-storage facilities, terracing, pest management, tree planting, organic-crop assistance and wildlife-habitat management. The list will vary based on locally prioritized conservation practices.

Applications can be taken at all NRCS offices and USDA service centers.

For more information, go to www.ga.nrcs.usda.gov and look under “programs.”
