A wreck in South Bryan sent two people to the hospital Saturday according to Capt. Mike Maxwell with the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department.

William Matthews of Richmond Hill and a juvenile were involved in a one-vehicle accident around 2:30 p.m. on Highway 144 East when Matthews fell asleep at the wheel.

“He was driving a Ford Expedition, he fell asleep and went off the side of the road, overcorrected and the vehicle flipped,” Maxwell said.

Maxwell said the juvenile was airlifted from the scene and is in serious condition. He said Matthews is also in serious condition.

No foul play is suspected, Maxwell said. The two were coming from a birthday party where they’d camped overnight and been fishing that morning.
