The Richmond Hill woman charged in the June head-on collision that killed Bryan County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Robert "Bobby" Crapse has been ordered to home confinement after turning herself into police Friday morning.

Patricia Collins, 24, was arrested following her indictment Wednesday on vehicular homicide charges. Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley awarded Collins a $25,000 bond Friday afternoon. According to the Chatham County Detention Center, she was released from jail around 2:45 p.m. Friday after posting bond.

Collins was driving south in the northbound lane of I-95 just after 2 a.m. June 15 when she collided head-on with a K-9 unit cruiser driven by Crapse, who later died from injuries sustained in the accident. Collins was taken to Memorial University Medical Center, where she was hospitalized for about a month.

A Georgia State Patrol toxicology report found in July that Collins had a blood alcohol content of 0.139 on the night of the crash. It is illegal in Georgia to drive with a BAC above 0.08.

A grand jury on Wednesday indicted Collins for first-degree vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, rendering her “less safe” to drive on the night of the accident.

Under the terms of her bond, according to the Chatham County District Attorney’s office, Collins is confined to her parent’s Sterling Creek Drive home. Conditions also include that she not drink alcohol, that she enroll in an alcohol counseling program, that she surrender her driver’s license and passport and more.

Crapse, 32, who had been with the BCSD since 1999, was assigned to the K-9 unit and was on duty when the accident occurred. His K-9 partner, Seppe, suffered minor injuries from the accident and has since been retired to live with the Crapse family.
