Hundreds of people became “secret agents” Tuesday when the United Way of Bryan County kicked off its 2012 campaign “Mission: Possible.”
The campaign goal of $64,007 — playing on the James Bond theme — is one United Way of Bryan County Director Kristi Cox feels confident about.
“I think the goal is attainable and I’m looking forward to not only reaching it, but exceeding it, of course with the help of everyone in the community,” she said.
Though she has volunteered with United Way of Bryan County in the past, this is Cox’s first year holding the reins of the campaign. She said she was pleased with the turnout at the kick-off event and is excited about the campaign.
“I think (the turnout) is fabulous — I am so excited,” she said of the crowd at the Richmond Hill City Center. “This has been the largest (kick off) turnout ever for Bryan County. I think this just goes to show that Bryan County is united, we’re all going to get together and partner and we’re going to help as many people in our community as we can, we’re going to impact lives.”
The campaign pacesetter — the fundraising group that “sets the pace” for others — was also announced.  Having already raised $7,928 during the month of August, and beating its donations by 13 percent from 2011, United Way of the Coast Empire vice president of resource development July Cyr announced Bryan Bank and Trust as this year’s pacesetter.
