A father and son are in custody thanks to an observant Agent with the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team (CNT).

Early yesterday afternoon, a CNT agent was in a Walgreens Pharmacy on Ogeechee Road when the agent noticed a customer acting nervous.  After observing the nervous customer purchasing pseudoephedrine, the active ingredient for methamphetamine, the agent opted to follow the unsuspecting suspect.  The suspect was followed to the Georgetown area where he was observed giving the box of pseudoephedrine to a known meth cook.

Agents quickly moved in making contact with the known meth cook, 43-year-old Joseph Roberts and Roberts’s son, 22-year-old Joseph Roberts Jr., both of Ellabell.

In addition to the recently purchased pseudoephedrine, agents seized methamphetamine and items commonly associated in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. Both were arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Pseudoephedrine with the Intent to Manufacture Methamphetamine and Possession of Tools for the Manufacturing of Methamphetamine.  The senior Roberts was also charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and other felony drug related charges.

The senior Roberts is no stranger to CNT and was out on bond at the time of his arrest. In that case, CNT made his arrest after finding him to be in possession of a methamphetamine lab in Bryan County.

Both men were arraigned earlier today in the Recorder’s Court of Chatham County.  The senior Roberts was denied bond and Roberts Jr. was granted a $10,000 bond. As of Thursday afternoon, Roberts Jr. remained at the Chatham County Detention Center.
