Bryan County Commissioner Carter Infinger caught the opening pitch during ceremonies Saturday marking the beginning of the 2012 Georgia Little League state tournament for 10-11-year-old players. Ten teams from around the state will play through July 20 to determine a state champion.

The first two games of the 2012 Georgia Little League 10/11-year-old state championship are in the books.

Athens knocked off Toccoa 5-4 in Pool 1 and Murphey Candler beat Cartersville 5-3 in Pool 2 the opening round of the tournament, which is being played in Richmond Hill through July 20.

Maximus Johnson homered for Athens while Dawson Sorrells and Mason Kimsey had home runs for Toccoa.

Other games on tap for today include host Coastal Little League (Richmond Hill) against South Fulton in Pool 1 and Warner Robins American vs. Midway Heights in Pool 2.

Sunday's games begin at 2 p.m. when Martinez Evans takes on Toccoa and Athens faces Coastal Little League.
