SAVANNAH — A number of changes start next week to the state’s adult education program.

Beginning July 1, GED certificate testing fees will increase $13 to $32 per test with the full battery of tests increasing $65 to $160. Additionally, all test registration and testing will be done online.

To help students understand these changes, Savannah Technical College has free information sessions July 16-20 in four locations.
“We want to work with our students to address any questions or concerns they may have,” said Jermaine Whirl, executive director of adult education at Savannah Tech. “Change is never easy, but being prepared can help minimize misunderstanding. That’s why we hope people will attend one of our sessions.”

At the sessions, students will learn about computer-based testing and watch a demo video. They also will learn how to register and schedule a test, what scholarship opportunities are available and how to complete the application for underage youth.

Here is the session schedule:

July 16 — 9 a.m., Crossroad campus auditorium in Savannah

July 18 — 9 a.m., Savannah campus academic commons room 126

July 19 — 9 a.m., Liberty Campus in Hinesville, room 138

July 20 — 9 a.m., Effingham campus in Rincon, room 135

There are more than 1 million Georgians who are 25 years of age or older and do not have a high school education or GED diploma.

Savannah Tech’s adult education serves those who need to improve their basic literacy and math skills, improve their oral and written English, practice for the GED test to attain a high-school equivalence degree and prepare for community college or technical education.

Savannah Technical College teaches adult education classes in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties with multiple locations in each community, including at the college’s campus locations in Savannah, Rincon and Hinesville.

Information sessions are first-come, first served. For information, call 443-5446 or go to www.savannahtech.edu/cwo/GED_Adult_Education and look for the GED Computer-Based Testing Registration Information link.
