Angie Hummeldorf should know a thing or two about Richmond High School softball. For the past four years she’s been in the dugout and coaching first base for the Lady Wildcats as an assistant coach.

Now, the program is hers to lead.

"I’m very excited about it," Hummeldorf said. "I think I had a great rapport with these young ladies these past four years. I think moving forward they can be very successful. I think we can be successful."

Hummeldorf said she’s ready to build on the foundation put down by former coach Sean Strickland, who stepped down to spend more time with family.

"I learned a lot about the game working with him," said Hummeldorf, a former college basketball player at Ashland (Ohio) College. "I think he has built a good program, I don’t feel like I’ll have to rebuild it, just reload it and continue building toward success."

Still, it’s clear Hummeldorf wants to put her stamp on the program. She wants her players to be fundamentally sound and buy into the notion that in team sports the team comes first.
