Canine friends flocked to the PawParazzi Pet Boutique on June 16 for free Reiki sessions provided by Rosemary Hagen from Our Healing Hands.
Jane Honnor, the owner from PawParazzi, said she chose the Reiki because she had received the therapy before and thought it could benefit family pets.
According to Hagen, Reiki is a method of healing with energy and is harmless to the animal or person receiving the therapy. She said it can help pets with emotional problems resulting from traumatic situations, neglect, abuse and injury.
Hagan said Reiki can also help pets with behavioral issues, like nervousness and hyper activity. If a pet is sick, the treatment can help with a faster recovery, she said.
Kathleen Murphy was one pet owner that brought her Chihuahua, Katie, to PawParazzi for the free therapy. She said Katie had been attacked by a dog and was still in the process of surgeries and healing.
“The trauma she received from the attack was incredible,” Murphy said.
In the beginning of the session, Katie was whining a lot and refused to leave her carrier. But as more time passed, the tiny dog settled down, and eventually Katie left her carrier and visited with Hagen who was administering Reiki to her.
