A promotional video featuring Richmond Hill will reach homes across the southeast at noon June 16 when it airs during a documentary about the Ford Motor Company on WGSA.

More than 650 people have already viewed the video, created by the Richmond Hill Convention and Visitors Bureau last year, on YouTube, and next weekend it will be televised to thousands more during the last five minutes of the film “The Future According to Ford.”

Chris Sheppard, director of the CVB, said she hopes the video will teach viewers about what Richmond Hill has to offer.

“I hope it gets the word out to more people about the natural beauty of Richmond Hill and the kinds of things you can do when you come and play in Savannah’s backyard,” she said.

The promotional video was produced by Emmy Award-winning reporter and producer Jim Bunn and directed by Savannah-based filmmaker Michael Jordan. It showcases a number of local restaurants, outdoors activities, historical sites and, of course, the Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival.

“It shows a good variety of all the modern things we have to offer with the added combination of all the historic things that are interesting about the community,” said Sheppard.

CVB board member Michelle Jones, an employee with the CW affiliate station, mentioned the video to Ford Motor Company after she heard about the documentary. After reviewing the video, Ford agreed to run it in lieu of additional commercial time.

Sheppard believes the entrepreneurial spirit of Richmond Hill and the city’s close connections to Henry Ford influenced the company’s decision to air the video.

“The kind of things Henry Ford did in Richmond Hill relate to the forward-thinking vision he had for America’s future, which is what the documentary is all about,” she said.

The "Future According to Ford" documentary will feature interviews with Ford engineers, designers and executives responsible for shaping the future of Ford Motor Company and the American manufacturing industry.

This is the second time the documentary and video will air on WGSA. They ran previously on April 15 and will run a third time at 7 p.m. Sept. 9.
