The following reports are from the Bryan County Sheriff’s Department:

Theft by taking

May 30 — Deputies responded around 8:30 a.m. to Mill Creek Church Road in Ellabell after a man reported his cell phone missing from his home. He said he was away from his home May 26-30, and when he returned the phone was gone. He said his cousins had been in the house without his permission. Signs of pilfering were present, but no items of real value had been taken.

Burglary

May 31 — Around 4 p.m., deputies responded to Knights Cemetery Road after a man reported several items missing from a container on his property. He said whoever stole the items, valued together at nearly $3,000, had to have driven a truck onto the property to take the heavy items, like a 5-foot-long trailer, an air compressor, a stick welder and more. Whoever stole the items would also have needed a key to unlock the gate on the property.

DUI

June 1 — Just after 1 a.m., deputies stopped a Richmond Hill man on Highway 17 after he failed to maintain his lane. After speaking with the driver, deputies smelled alcohol and noticed the man had glassy eyes and slurred speech. He had trouble walking and failed a field sobriety test, which led to his arrest.

Obstruction

June 3 — Around 3 p.m., deputies noticed a bicycle sticking out from behind a tree in Hendrix Park. When deputies approached the area, he saw a girl standing by the tree and an Ellabell man running away. After deputies found the man, he said he didn’t have any identification, but gave a name and date of birth. The man was a registered sex offender and officers then found a Georgia Department of Corrections release ID card on him. The girl told deputies she was 15 years old, but deputies later found she was 14 and was the original victim of the man’s sex offense charge of statutory rape. The man was taken to jail.
