The Richmond Hill Exchange Club’s 22nd annual Kids Fishing Derby is from 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery on Ford Avenue between the library and Kroger.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m., with fishing beginning at 8:30 a.m. The derby is free to children ages 15 and younger who are accompanied by parents or an adult guardian.
Over the past 21 years, thousands of children have participated, and the club expects another record turnout this year. The fish hatchery ponds have been stocked with catfish. Participants should bring fishing poles equipped and ready to fish, as well as bait. A limited amount of bait and fishing poles will be available for use free of charge.
Free hot dogs and Coke products also will be available at no charge for participants, courtesy of Roger Wood Meats and the Savannah Coca-Cola Bottling Co.
Awards for children 12 and under will be presented for several categories, including first fish caught, most total pounds (limit of 10 fish) and heaviest fish. Awards include $50 savings bonds and/or trophies based on age groups. The savings bonds are donated by Bryan Bank and Trust, and the trophies are donated by the club. All children will also be eligible for door prizes. Award presentations will follow the derby.
Parents or guardians should complete an official entry form for each child and bring it to the derby Saturday. Entry forms can be downloaded from www.rhxc.org/fishing.htm
