The Richmond Hill High School Wildcats end of year banquet took place Wednesday.

The Wildcats finished the season 12-11 and placed second in Region 2A-AAAA. The team advanced to the Class AAAA playoffs.

All freshman, junior varsity and varsity players were recognized at the banquet.

Among the awards presented:

Offensive Player of the Year went to senior Kevin Davis. Davis hit .375 and his on-base percentage was over .500 for most of the year.

Senior Ryan Esenwein, an Armstrong Atlantic State University signee, won Most Valuable Pitcher award. Esenwein went 5-3 with 41 strikeouts.

Senior Nathan Ward was awarded the Most Valuable Player by hitting .325 and having a 2.55 ERA. Ward also signed to play baseball at AASU.

Freshman Jonah Reyes won the Defensive Player of the Year after being thrust into the starting catcher’s roll after pre-season injuries. Reyes caught almost every game and called all the pitches after the fifth game of the year.

Junior Brian Strahan took home two awards, Most Improved Player and Highest GPA.

Strahan finished the year as a dependable third starter and finished the spring semester with a 3.73 GPA.

Four players also made the 2A-AAAA All-Region team. Esenwein, Davis and Ward were selected as well as sophomore Payton Carter.

Carter struck out 29 batters in 22-1/3 innings and converted five of six save opportunities. Strahan made the team as an Honorable Mention by going 3-1 with a 0.78 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 27 innings.
