The players that started with Bryan County Redskins football coach Mark Wilson as freshman and sophomores are now the nucleus of his team as juniors and seniors.

Wilsonis entering his third season inBryanCounty. The Redskins finished a positive 6-4 season last year thatWilsonis using as a foundation for spring and the coming 2012 season.

“We don’t have a lot of positions up for grabs this spring. We have 10 returning on offense and nine defensive starters,”Wilsonsaid.

According toWilson, other than working through the drills and plays, the Redskins hope to find some players that can add depth in the fall.

Wilsonsaid that he was pleased with the progress his team made during spring football but some of the major gains were made in off season weight workouts.

“We were behind in strength when I got here but these kids have completely bought in to our strength program and this off season we really saw some gains. We had several players put on 15-20 pounds of muscle which definitely going to help us on the football field,”Wilsonsaid.

The Redskins will remain an I formation team with a balanced attack of running and throwing the football. DefensivelyBryanCountyused spring practice to polish its 4-4 defense.

BryanCountymoves to Region 2-AA this coming season as part of the massive off season realignment by the Georgia High School Association.

Area power Vidalia, Metter,ToombsCounty, andLongCountyare also part of the new region.

“This is definitely going to be a tougher region for us but I think we are in a good situation playing mostly juniors and seniors. We are hungry for football and hungry to win,”Wilsonsaid.
