The BCHS Redskins traveled to the Region 3A tournament in Savannah last Wednesday evening. The seeding dictated that the Redskins play number 2 ranked Emanuel County.

It looked as if the Skins might pull an upset in the first quarter. A 3 point shot by Trey Boatright, a layup and 2 free-throws by Stephen Ranger, along with a jumper from D J McElroy put the Redskins up 9 to ECI’s 5.

The second quarter would prove the turning point in the game. D J McElroy put in 2 more. Barry Spencer dropped in a layup. Alkeem Collins made a free throw. This gave the Redskins their only 5 for the quarter. On the other hand, the ECI Bulldogs were able to put 15 points in their own basket. The ‘Skins went to the locker room with an 8 point deficit.

The second half of play saw Alkeem Collins score 2 layups and a free-throw for the Redskins only 5 points of the quarter. It was enough for the Redskins to creep up slightly on the ECI lead as the Bulldogs were only able to put 1 point on the board. The reason neither team scored much during this quarter is a game plan ECI has used with mixed results all season long. At the beginning of the half, ECI brought the ball past half court… and that’s it. They simply stood still. Bryan County fans have seen this twice before but never for an entire quarter. The third quarter saw only 6 points scored as the 3rd quarter was not really played. Fans were treated to the spectacle of the Bulldogs holding the ball at half court and the Redskins gather in front of the goal and stand in a 2-3 zone.

In the final quarter of play, Collins put in 3 more layups and Boatright dropped 2 more giving Bryan its highest scoring quarter with 10 points. Unfortunately, the Bulldogs were able to put in 18 points. The final score was ECI 41 – Bryan 29. This game ended the boys’ season.
