Are you ready for “Lockout?” Prepare yourself, because space is the place for this explosive near-future, sci-fi action thriller.

CIA Agent Snow (Guy Pearce) is having a bad day. A friend is dead and has left him to hide a briefcase, but authorities want Snow for the murder. Being wrongfully accused is no walk in the park, but before he can even wrap his mind around life in prison, a disaster erupts that has Snow’s name written all over it. You see, there’s this maximum security prison hovering in orbit above the earth where all the criminals are placed in cryo-sleep. The president’s daughter (Maggie Grace) just happens to be visiting on a humanitarian mission to ensure the welfare of the captives.  It turns out that thawing one of the inmates in order to interview him was a big mistake. Now the baddies are awake and in charge.

Snow is a lot like John McLane or Snake Plissken. He’s the only man for the job, but even if he’s feeling rather unmotivated by the dangerous mission to retrieve the girl, something aboard the floating station of death just might clear his name.

When I first saw the trailer for “Lockout,” I thought, “This one is either really good or really cheesy.” Critics agreed with me. Many wrote off the picture as silly. Others claim it’s one of those movies that’s so bad, it’s good. My problem with most films so bad they are good is they aren’t good at all. This could have been the case with “Lockout,” but I don’t think that it was.

Pearce makes this picture a winner. He’s the funniest action hero since … ever. I mean, when I look back at Willis, Stallone and Schwarzenegger, sure, there were one-liners, but they all took themselves pretty seriously, yes? Pearce’s Agent Snow doesn’t do that. And that makes his character brilliant.
I’m a big fan!
