Hundreds of people are expected to gather Friday in J.F. Gregory Park to help raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society as part of Relay for Life of Bryan County.
According to Relay for Life co-chair Amber Jones, the event is set to kick off at 7 p.m. and feature dozens of activities for kids and families.
“We want people to know everyone is invited to the event, not just people who have signed up,” she said. “We want the entire community to show up because it is a community event. Bring the kids—bring the family—for a big celebration.”
The event will begin with a tribute to area cancer survivors who will walk together during a survivor’s lap and will be joined by Jones, who is a two-time cancer survivor.

“There will be high school cheerleaders cheering our survivors on,” she said. “It’s nice to have people cheering for you and celebrating.”

Jones said in addition to the survivor lap, there will be different themed laps throughout the event.

“There is a poker run, a 70s lap, pajama party laps, all kinds of things,” she said.

“We have several teams out there that will have food and we’ll be selling food, playing games and there is a kid’s zone,” Jones said. “We’re having a male beauty pageant which is always fun. Of course all the money raised goes to the American Cancer Society.”
