The city of Pembroke talked projects during Monday's regularly scheduled meeting in City Hall and took steps to move forward with improvements for the city's water services and sidewalks.
The city council unanimously approved a bid of $193,810.38 from Statesboro-based John E. Lavender and Associates for the construction of new sidewalks and bike paths in the city.
The project, which will connect City Park and the courthouse to the downtown area with bike paths and sidewalks, is the third phase of a Transportation Enhancement Activity project. These projects are funded by a grant from the Department of Transportation for improvements to the downtown area.
Before construction can begin on the projects, the Department of Transportation still has to approve the construction company, according to City Clerk Betty Hill.
The council also approved Associates in Local Government Assistance Inc., as a grant administrator and P.C. Simonton and Associates as an engineer/architect for the city's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application. If awarded, the grant will help fund projects to eliminate various water problems for some residents.
