Several schools across the county will get a little financial boost after the Bryan County Board of Education approved Thursday more than $9,000 in donations for five schools.
Sports programs, fundraisers, field trips and more will all be supported by the donations made by local and regional businesses. The donations were accepted during a regularly scheduled meeting at Richmond Hill Primary School.
Board member Joe Pacenka "gladly" made the motion to approve the donations, and board Chairman Eddie Warren said he was thankful to see the community support the schools receive.
Board member Dennis Seger noted donations benefit the schools.
"Without the donations, a lot of our extra activities and even some of our classrooms wouldn't be able to have what they have, so I thank everybody," Seger said.
The donations are as follows:
-$4,500 from Simpson Lumber Company to help purchase new football uniforms at Bryan County High School.
-$1,500 from the Bryan County Elementary School PTO for field trips and to fund breakfast each morning before the CRCT for all students and staff members at BCES.
-$200 worth of merchandise from Plantation Lumber and Hardware for the PAWS perfect attendance program at Richmond Hill Middle School.
-$100 from Bryan Bank and Trust for the Richmond Hill Middle School chicken dinner fundraiser.
-$250 from Coastal EMC and $600 from Hernandez Collision Center for the Richmond Hill High School region tournament hospitality room.
-$100 from Scholar Rehab, $50 from Smoking Pig, $100 from State Sen. Buddy Carter, R-Pooler, and reduced price T-shirts at $4.60 each from Bahama Joes for National Girls and Women in Sports Day at RHHS.
