Some residents on both ends of the county talked pennies Thursday when informational meetings were held to explain the purpose of the education local option sales tax in Bryan County Schools.
The meetings, held at Richmond Hill Elementary School in South Bryan and at Lanier Primary School in North Bryan, were spearheaded by Carol Ann Coleman, a former Bryan County School Board of Education chairman, who is working to promote the penny tax.
At the meetings, Coleman handed out flyers with information about the March 6 referendum and how the school system has benefitted from ESPLOST in the past. Things like the new Richmond Hill Middle School, Richmond Hill High School gym air conditioning, Bryan County High School Tennis Courts and more have been possible with ESPLOST dollars.
She asked that those in attendance pass out the flyers to help others get a better understanding of what ESPLOST actually does.
