The Georgia Department of Transportation recently awarded 21 new contracts valued at more than $23.7 million for statewide bridge and infrastructure improvements, and some improvements are slated for Bryan County.
Included in a $1 million contract awarded to Oldcastle Southern Group Inc., of Savannah, some city streets in Pembroke and Richmond Hill will see resurfacing upgrades according to a release from the DOT.
No streets were specified in the release.
The contract includes resurfacing to other area city streets including projects in Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth and Tybee Island, the release says.
In addition to city streets, some county roads will also be resurfaced. A total of 11.5 miles of city streets will be resurfaced.
The expected completion date is Nov. 30, according to the release.
Other contracts were awarded statewide, with the largest single project being a $9.8 million contract to Gregory Bridge Company of Eatonton.
This project is for the construction of three new bridges across the Oconee River and its floodplain on U.S. Highway 280/State Route 30 in Montgomery and Wheeler Counties.
This project is expected to be complete in March 2014.
An approximately $1.4 million contract was awarded to R.J. Haynie and Associates Inc. of Lake City for the widening and streetscape enhancements of State University Drive in Fort Valley in Peach county.
A contract for more than $1.6 million was allotted for resurfacing county roads in Appling, Jeff Davis, Montgomery, Telfair and Wheeler counties to Ricketson Construction Co. of Douglas.
Also included in that project are city streets in 14 cities in those counties.
Georgia DOT has begun 146 new construction projects valued at approximately $620 million in Fiscal Year 2012.
