The Bryan County High School Lady Redskins knocked off host Savannah Country Day 46-45 on Friday to improve to 11-3 and 2-1 in Region 3A-A.
Diamond Mcgirt paced the Lady Redskins with 17 points and four steals while Tiffany Howard added 15 points, five steals and five assists.
"We had to battle some foul trouble during this game but we were able to come away with a tough one point victory," BCHS girls' coach Mario Mincey said. "I told the team that a win like this will help us in the long run. We must continue to play together because our region is really tough and we must be prepared every night we step on the floor."
Satashala Beasley chipped in six points and nine rebounds, Rita Ivey had three points and Taylor Butler finished with two points as well for Bryan County, which traveled to Metter on Tuesday.
In the boys' contest, three players scored in double figures for the Redskins, but it wasn't enough as the Hornets won 65-51.
"It was a tough night," BCHS boys' coach Allen Clark said. "Our youth really showed. They had a very large and active crowd. Several calls by the officials were close and we just got rattled. We have to learn to play through all of that."
Jaylan Rawls and Kajana Dixon paced the Redskins with 14 points each while Cameron Register added 11 as Bryan Count dropped to 3-11 and 1-2 in 3A-A.
There were bright spots for the Redskins despite the loss.
"I was pleased that we have been cutting our turnovers down," Clark said. "We had eight for the entire game. Although the score does not show it, we have been improving on both the offensive and defensive end. Country Day's best player dropped in 37 and that was a big lift for them. We have 10 games left and we need to start playing our best basketball."
Akaya Johnson chipped in seven points while Mycheal Smith added three points and Antonio Brown two points for the Redskins.
Bryan County plays at Calvary Baptist on Friday.
