Bryan County High School will play full time in Class AA next year. On Friday night, the Lady Redskins gave AA power Vidalia a preview of what the Lady Indians might expect, winning 65-63 in the Brewton Parker Christmas Tournament in Mount Vernon.
"This was a great win for us," Bryan County coach Mario Mincey said. "Vidalia has some really good players and they have a great tradition. I am very proud of the girls' effort and the composure they showed to get the win."
Leading the way for the Lady Redskins (9-2) was Diamond Mcgirt, who had 24 points and six steals and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
Satashala Beasley chipped in 16 points, 13 rebounds and six seals while Tiffany Howard finished with 15 points and seven steals.
Ayanna Harvey added eight points and three rebounds and Sierra Newman had a bucket for Bryan County.
Vidalia finished 28-1 in 2010-11.
The boys played at the Portal Christmas Tournament and had mixed results. After falling 86-60 on Thursday night, the Redskins bounced back Friday to knock off Worth County 70-63.
"Portal is very talented," Redskins coach Allen Clark said. "They came out of the gate against us and never looked back. We played them much tougher the first time we saw them earlier in the year but they really came out early and we never recovered."
Jaylan Rawls led the Redskins (2-10) with 15 points while Antonio Brown and Kajana Dixon each chipped in 10. Jeremy McLendon scored seven points, Cameron Register added six points and Khalil Smith had four points. Chris Morgan and Roshawn Dukes added three and two points, respectively.
On Friday night, Dixon sparked the Redskins against Worth County, scoring 23 points and earning a spot on the All-Tournament team.
