Several things are on the 2012 agenda for the city of Richmond Hill including a property annexation, new sidewalks, Interstate 95 interchange improvements and more.

One of the city’s big projects, Mayor Harold Fowler said, is working on an agreement with TerraPointe, the real estate arm of Raynoier, to bring water and sewer to the future industrial site known as Belfast Commerce Center.

The city also will work on an agreement with the county to annex the 904 acres the Belfast Commerce Center sits on because it currently is not in the city limits of Richmond Hill. Folwer said he expects to begin progress on the annexation at the first city council meeting of the year, which is Jan. 3.

Fowler said a time frame for the water and sewer to be provided to the park will depend on TerraPointe and how it plans to pay for the project.

“We (the city) wants to make sure the taxpayers aren’t having to pay for the water and sewer line run out to that site,” Fowler said.

Fowler said the future industrial park will bring in a lot of revenue and be beneficial to the community.

“Of course you’d have (more) jobs and revenue for the city, but instead of just basing our tax base on rooftops, we’ll have industry we’ll have revenue coming in from,” Fowler said.
