158th Airlift Squadron gains new commander
Lt. Col. Harold D. Davis II is selected to assume command of the 158th Airlift Squadron, the flying element of the 165th Airlift Wing, GA Air National Guard, headquartered at Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. Prior to this new position of responsibility, Davis served as the Chief of Standardization/Evaluation, 165th Operations Group.
He received his commission after successfully graduating from the Citadel and completing their Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1986. A Command Pilot, he has accumulated more than 4,000 hours as a pilot and 500 hours as a navigator. He assumes the position vacated by Lt. Col. James Grandy upon his selection as commander of the 165th Maintenance Group. Davis and his wife, Stacy, have a daughter, Sydney, and reside in Savannah.

165th Maintenance Group change of command
Lt. Col. James E. Grandy II is promoted to his new position of responsibility in a “Change of Command” ceremony at the 165th Airlift Wing. Lt. Col. Grandy now assumes the role of commander of the 165th Maintenance Group, with direct supervision of all aircraft maintenance operations for Savannah’s Air Force.  Grandy was tapped for this new position of responsibility upon the retirement of Col. Jeffrey Tucker. Lt. Grandy’s military career spans more than 20 years. Prior to this new command, he served as the commander of the 158th Airlift Squadron, a sub-element of the 165th Airlift Wing, GA Air National Guard. Grandy lives in Savannah with his wife, Susan, and their two daughters, Alexandra and Alannah.

Tucker Retires from military career
After a distinguished and decorated career of military service, Col. Jeffrey R. Tucker has retired from command of the 165th Maintenance Group and service within the ranks of the Georgia Air National Guard.
The 165th Maintenance Group is a sub-element of the 165th Airlift Wing, headquartered at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport.   
Tucker initiated his career of military service when he graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Florida State University.  He received his commission after completing the USAF Officers’ Training School, graduating as a Distinguished Graduate. Tucker and his wife, Julie, have a son, Carey, and live in Savannah. He is a partner in the accounting firm of Hirsch & Tucker.

Wichers retires after 20 years
After more than 20 years of distinguished military service, Lt. Col. Andrew S. R. Wichers has retired from the ranks of the 224th Joint Communications Support Squadron, Georgia Air National Guard, headquartered in Brunswick. Wichers initiated his career of military service upon graduation from North Georgia College. He received his commission after completing the Reserve Officers Training Corps and entered into the U.S. Air Defense Artillery Branch in 1985. After 11 years of active duty, Wichers joined the Georgia Air National Guard. As he retires from military service, he continues to serve the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System as the director of employee relations. Wichers and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children, Shannon and William Judson. They reside in Richmond Hill.

Allen graduates from NCO Academy
Technical Sgt. Vonetta Allen recently graduated from the U.S. Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer’s Academy located at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base, AL, a significant achievement in the career of enlisted airmen. The academy allows mid-level Non-Commissioned Officers the ability to train and complete a series of demanding courses that prepares them for advancement to the senior NCO level of leadership. Allen serves as financial services office supervisor for financial management, an element of the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard.  She is a resident of Pooler.
