Bryan County home sales in October experienced a hiccup compared to August and September, but things are expected to pick back up soon with a 23 percent increase in home sales and more new home construction than this time last year.
According to a report from the Savannah Area Board of Realtors, which monitors home sales in Bryan County, only 38 homes were sold in Bryan County in October – down from 50 homes sold in September and 46 sold in August.
But Linda King, a Re/Max of Savannah agent and Savannah Area Board of Realtors vice president of Governmental Affairs for 2012, said she is seeing positive feedback from new subdivisions and also is seeing more buyers interested in building their own homes.
“We are quoting new construction and people are thinking about building homes again,” she said. “It took a while for the buyer confidence to return and it’s slowly and surely coming back.”
Melissa Thurston, an agent with Summit Homes and Land in Ellabell, said her company has seen increased sales in its five-county selling area, including Bryan County.
“We are really busy in Bryan County because we have really great values and lower prices for more square footage and land for building,” Thurston wrote in a statement.
Though Bryan County home sales in October was four homes shy of the 42 sold in October 2010, King said compared to surrounding areas, the Richmond Hill market has faired well through the housing market slump.
“In the overall scheme, Richmond Hill did not lose as much value as some surrounding counties and their recovery has started sooner,” she said. “We’ve got wonderful schools and a great community and people want to live here, so I’m very optimistic for the Richmond Hill market.”
