One of Richmond Hill’s own, Heather Vaccaro recently signed with Milligan College. During her years here at RHHS, Heather has proven herself to be a superb softball player. I consulted with Heather about Milligan itself, and how she rose to such a distinguished achievement. It is encouraging to see a skilled athlete from Richmond Hill on their way to compete at the collegiate level.

Q: Where is Milligan College?

A: Milligan is in the tip of Tennessee. It’s in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Q: Had you been to Milligan before you were signed?

A: Well, I went up the first weekend in December, which was the first time I had been up there. So I got the chance to talk to the softball coach. We started talking more, he offered me a scholarship, and I took it.

Q: Were you scouted by Milligan before you went there?

A: No, I actually wasn’t scouted. We [Vaccaro and the Milligan coach] had been talking through e-mails, and I told him I was interested.

Q: How long have you been playing softball?

A: I’ve been playing since I was four.

Q: What position do you play?

A: Anywhere in the outfield.

Q: Do you have any advice for student athletes also looking to get signed?

A: I would tell them to put themselves out there. Don’t wait for the coach or the college to come up to you. You contact them first and that shows initiative that your interested and that you actually want to go there rather than just sitting back and waiting for a college to contact you, because that’s not always going to happen.
