Crowds of teens and young adults gathered Saturday at Richmond Hill’s New Life Church for Rocktoberfest, an all-day concert event featuring more than 40 hardcore, metal and Christian rock bands.
Tim White of Pembroke came to the event with friends.
“We’re here for the music,” he said. “Family, too – not really family, but friends, and getting more band merch(andise).”
Emily Grossman came all the way from Washington, D.C., to see Saints Amongst Thieves, a band from Savannah.
“I wanted to support them at this show. They’re friends of mine and I love their music,” she explained.
Event organizer Brian Buchanan was not able to be reached for comment by presstime but said previously that the event was meant to be something for kids who listen hardcore and heavy metal music but have nowhere to see it live.
Bands, including national names like Sent By Ravens, The Chariot, Gideon and others, played from noon to 11:30 p.m. on multiple indoor and outdoor stages. Most groups in the concert’s lineup feature Christian-based or simply positive messages in their lyrics, according to Buchanan.
