It sure isn't getting any easier for the Richmond Hill High School football team.
The Wildcats, unbeaten just two weeks ago, are suddenly on a two-game losing streak and about to play No. 6-ranked Ware County (6-1, 2-0) on Friday night.
The Gators' only setback was a 35-17 loss to Class AAAAA power Lowndes Cuunty on Sept. 23. Last week, Ware County pummeled Liberty County 47-6.
"Ware County is a very good football team," Richmond Hill coach Lyman Guy said. "They're well balanced and well coached It's going to be a tough test for us."
The Wildcats (5-2, 1-2) were on a roll until they ran into Wayne County two weeks ago and fell 14-13 in a nailbiter. Last week, Richmond Hill spotted Glynn Academy two first-quarter touchdowns on the way to a 44-27 loss.
"We gave up two early special team scores. It should've been 7-7 at the half," Guy said. "We made the proper adjustments on offense and were doing well defensively, but we had a few key injuries and distractions that kind of got us out of sync a little bit as the game wore on. Glynn Academy is a good football team, but (spotting Glynn two touchdowns) was the difference in the game."
Slotback Alex Cruz led the Wildcats ground attack with 89 yards and a touchdown on four carries. Fullback David Katzman had 86 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries and quarterback Dominique Allen ran for 75 yards and two scores on 16 carries.
Through seven games, Cruz leads the Wildcats with 514 yards and six touchdowns on 32 carries - an average gain of 15 yards every time he touches the ball. Allen has 494 yards and six TDs while Katzman has 439 yards and two touchdowns. TJ Franklin has chipped in 301yards and two scores and Aaron Dixon has 249 yards rushing.
As a team, Richmond Hill has rushed for 2,059 yards and passed for 288.
Defensively, safety Kyle Greening had 10 tackles and one assist at Glynn. Connor Beeson leads RHHS with tackles with 49.5. Greening is second with 36 and Trevor Thomas has 31.
