POSTED: September 14, 2011 11:25 a.m.

Bryan County residents who have concerns with their newly assessed property values still have a few days left to appeal to the county assessor’s office.
Chief Appraiser Dan Rollf said the last day to file an appeal is technically Sept. 18, but because that falls on a Sunday, appeals should be filed or postmarked by Sept. 17 – which is Saturday.
Rollf said the best way to file an appeal is to go to the assessor’s office so the staff can print a form with all the necessary data, like identification and property information. Forms with the specific data can also be e-mailed to the property owner, he said.
Rollf said the property owner must have on their form the property identification number and the reason why they want to appeal the assessed value.
“You have got to say why you’re appealing because if it comes in blank, we’re probably not going to do anything with it,” he said.
Rollf said property owners can appeal based on the general value of their property, the taxability, the uniformity or denial of exemption.
For more on the appeal process, please visit www.bryancountyga.org/departments/tax_assessor/appeals.php, or call the tax assessor’s office at 653-3889 or 756-3209.
