Sunday marks the 10th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and events are planned in honor of those who died and gave their service during the attacks.
A special remembrance service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at Pembroke Christian Church. Sponsored by the North Bryan County Ministerial Committee, Pembroke Christian Church Pastor Jim Sullivan said the committee wanted to honor those affected by the attacks.
“We want the police, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and military to come because we want to honor them for what they have done essentially for us, what they did that day and since then,” Sullivan said. “They don’t get enough thanks.”
The program will feature music, a short message by Sullivan and prayer, and the local Cub Scout pack will present the colors, he said.
The program will also be outside, so it is recommended to bring a yard chair or blanket. Refreshments will also be served.
It is a community event, Sullivan said, and not just for churches, so everyone is invited to attend.
The Richmond Hill Kroger will participate in a nationwide effort to show appreciation for the firefighters and first responders involved in 9/11 by donating refreshments to local law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
Kroger staff will deliver throughout the day Sunday various items, such as meat and cheese trays, sandwich breads, deserts and drinks to local stations in South Bryan.
Throughout Georgia, Gov. Nathan Deal has ordered flags be flown at half-staff through sunset Sunday.
