Richmond Hill resident John Fesperman has announced his plans to throw his hat in the ring for Richmond Hill City Council.

In a prepared statement emailed to the News, Fesperman said there are needs in the city that are not being met by current council members Marilyn Hodges and Jimmy Hires, whose seats are the only two up for re-election in November.

“Because of my children, I see a need in Richmond Hill,” he said. “The current politicians running again for office have ignored the residents and families of Richmond Hill. They have turned a deaf ear to us on important spending issues and have put their own wants and desires above our needs.

“I want to make a difference and take our city and government in a new direction.  I want to do this for my children and the families of Richmond Hill.”

Hodges and Hires have not yet publically announced their intentions to seek re-election, though it is expected. Such announcements are not made official until those wishing to run for office qualify during the designated period, which is Aug. 29 through Sept. 2, at City Hall.
