Steve Scholar, director of planning and zoning for the city of Richmond Hill, faced this week's questions:

1. What do you feel is your greatest achievement?
Serving my country in the Air Force for 20 years and raising a family who cares about the socially important issues.

2. What, to you, is perfect happiness?
Spending time with family and the ability to be comfortable in my own skin.

3. What one material possession would you save in the event of a fire (assuming your family was safe)?
My dog, Bailey, and as many family heirlooms as I could carry.

4. What's the best advice you've ever been given?
Pick your battle – that is, know when to hold ’em and know when to fold ’em.

5. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I’d be younger.

6. What is your greatest fear?
Dying without having made a difference in the lives of people close to me.

7. What real or fictional person do you most identify with?
Sherlock Holmes.

8. What is your greatest extravagance?
Spending too much money on vintage things.

9. If money weren't an object, how would you spend your time?
Traveling and collecting antiques.

10. What is your favorite thing about yourself?
My sense of humor.

11. What trait do you most admire in another person?
Integrity.

12. What trait do you most deplore in another person?
Being two-faced.

13. Who are your favorite musicians?
Aerosmith, Mahalia Jackson, Al Jolson, Kid Rock and The Temptations.

14. What are your favorite books?
“Exodus” and “The Trinity” by Leon Uris and the “Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck.

15. What talent would you most like to have?
The ability to be a great orator.
