STATESBORO — Georgia Southern University’s Performing Arts Center will celebrate its 10th season with a mix of entertainment that includes Broadway classics, a country music favorite, a world-renowned composer and musical political satire.
“The upcoming season is truly our best ever,” Performing Arts Center Director Albert Pertalion said. “For 10 years, my slogan for the Georgia Southern University Performing Arts Center has been ‘Bringing us the world one season at a time.’ They’ve been excellent years.”
The 2011-12 season begins and ends with Broadway. The show “100 Years of Broadway” kicks off the season Sept. 9 and the classic “South Pacific” will close the season in April.
Season-ticket renewals will begin July 26. New season-ticket holders can purchase tickets beginning Aug. 16 and individual ticket sales will begin Aug. 30.
In between, audiences will be treated to the musical political satire of “Capitol Steps,” the nostalgia of “Forever Motown” and vocal performances by the American Boychoir and Women of Ireland.
Country and bluegrass artist Kathy Mattea will perform Nov. 19. She has 16 top-10 singles to her credit that include No. 1 hits “Goin’ Gone,” “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses,” “Come From the Heart” and “Burnin’ Old Memories.”
Award-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch will take the stage Jan. 22.
“Marvin Hamlisch is one of only two people in history to win an Oscar, a Tony, an Emmy, a Grammy and a Pulitzer Prize,” Pertalion said.
