First Presbyterian Christian Academy open house

An open house for military families will be from 1-4:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Christian Academy, 308 East Court St. in Hinesville.

Jaguars season tickets on sale

Jacksonville Jaguars 2011 season tickets are on sale at Leisure Travel Services Offices at both Fort Stewart and Hunter.

This year, a limited supply of end zone tickets are available for $60 per person. Regular season tickets in sections 200 and 400 are also available for $43 per person.

All tickets are for Jaguars Home Games only. Visit Leisure Travel Services, inside Stewart AAFES Furniture Mall or Bldg. 1286 on Hunter.

Missoula Children’s Theater auditions at Hunter

Youth, ages 7-18, can audition from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. July 25 at Hunter’s building 1289 for the Missoula Children’s Theater production of the musical, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

About 75 youth will be cast for parts.

Rehearsals will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily through July 29. The performance is free and open to the public at 3 p.m. July 30 at the Hunter Army Airfield Theater.

Participants will have an opportunity to learn about and experience drama, public speaking and acting.

Liberty County Schools Military Registration Day

Liberty County Schools will have a Military Registration Day from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. July 26 at their school for families needing to register students for the 2011-12 School Year. 

To help ease the military families’ transition into the system, all Liberty County Schools will register students, give information, assign classes and schedules, as well as answer school-related questions.

For registration, families need to bring the student's Social Security card; birth certificate; Georgia Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231), Georgia Certificate of Ear, Eye and Dental Screening (Form 3300); two proofs of residence; proof of enrollment and attendance (report card/school transcript) from an accredited school; and departing school address.

Back to School Fair at Club Stewart

The Child, Youth and School Services’ Back-to-School Fair, featuring information, fashion and prizes, will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 27 at Club Stewart.

You'll be able to talk with local school representatives, learn more about family and youth-related services on Fort Stewart and see the Back-to-School Fashion Show.

Students will model school uniforms and youth fashions from the AAFES PX in the show, which begins at 11:30 a.m.

The event also will include a number of prizes and giveaways, as well as children's activities.

Dog Days of the Marne Youth Football Clinic

A three-day, all position Dog Days of the Marne Youth Football Clinic will be from 9 a.m.-noon July 28, 29 and 30 at the Youth Sports football field. Youth ages 8-17 may take part.

There is no charge, but space is limited, and participants are encouraged to register at Jordan Youth Gym. All participants must be registered with Child, Youth and School Services.

The clinic will focus on speed, agility, distance and starts, catching and character building.

GC Golf Scramble at Stewart

A Garrison Commander’s Four-Person Golf Scramble at Taylors Creek Golf Course will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. July 29. 

The cost is $35 for active duty, military retirees, Army civilians and golf club members. It is $45 for civilian guests. Play will be limited to the first 25 teams and registration closes July 27.

CYSS Youth Sports registration

Registration for tackle football/cheerleading and fall soccer will close Aug 15, or when all slots are filled. 

Registration is open to CYSS members living on or off-post. Football is open to ages 7-12 (as of Aug. 1), cheerleading is open to ages 6-13 (Dec 31) and soccer is open to ages 4-13 (Aug 1).

Register online at https://webtrac.mwr.army.mil/webtrac/stewartcyms.html or call Parent Central Services at 767-2312, next to post library. The office is open by appointment only on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Walk-ins welcome on Wednesdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

Operation Rising Star contestant sign-up

Singers from Stewart and Hunter can sign up to compete in Operation Rising Star, the Army’s version of “American Idol,” at Rocky’s Zone.

The free competition is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and is open to active duty, National Guard or Reserve from any branch of service, and family members who are at least 18 years old. The sign-up deadline is Aug. 26.

The local competition opens Rocky’s on Aug. 30. Subsequent rounds will be on Sept. 6 and 13, with the finals scheduled for Sept. 20.

The first-place winner will receive $500 and advance to the 2011 finals. Second place will get $250 and third place wins $100. The Army-wide winner will go an all-expense-paid, three-day professional recording studio experience in Los Angeles.

The Spirit Award — $300 to a unit or family readiness group fund — will be given to the most supportive unit or FRG. Any unit or FRG may compete for the award regardless of contestant participation. Support will be determined each night by the level of applause. A cumulative score from each night will determine the winner.

Pass & Permit Wildlife Photo Contest

Registration is under way for the Wildlife Photo Contest to be Nov. 16 at the Fort Stewart Pass & Permit Office. Registration closes Nov. 3.

The theme is wildlife photography. Please, no photos of pets. Photo dimensions are four by six inches or larger and there is no limit to the quantities entered. 

The contest is open to amateur photographers and entry fees are $5, for ages 2-15, per photo and $10, ages 16 and older, per photo.
