ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Labor (GDoL) is launching a month-long effort to help job seekers improve their chances for employment.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler recently announced the launch of RésuMAY, which will occur throughout the month of May.
RésuMAY will focus on résumé-writing tools and employment-related services available year-round to job seekers in GDOL offices throughout the state. GDOL career centers, Vocational Rehabilitation offices, and Workforce Investment Boards will participate.
“Résumé-writing assistance is one of the most popular and valuable services that Georgia’s workforce system offers,” said Butler. “Studies have shown that an employer makes a decision about a job seeker within the first 30 seconds of looking at a résumé. That’s why a well-written résumé is critical, otherwise the applicant may not get an opportunity to interview for a job.
“Through RésuMAY, we’ll be able to better equip job seekers to market their skills to employers.”
GDOL will provide a variety of resources at the state level for RésuMAY. They include Type Explore Discover (Ask TED), a live online chat scheduled for May 25 devoted to résumés, a series of new on-line résumé-writing podcasts and new online resources and marketing materials for job seekers to download.
For additional information and a list of events scheduled throughout the state, visit the GDOL website at www.dol.state.ga.us. Look for the RésuMAY link in the Spotlight section of the homepage.
