The Richmond Hill High School varsity competition cheerleaders travelled to Toombs County on Sept. 22 where they took second place in their class. This follows up the weekend prior where they nabbed first place at home for the Coastal Cheer Classic in the Class AAA/AAAA Varsity Division.

"Winning our first competition of the season was a huge achievement for this squad," said head coach Wendy Dauphinee. "It was a good start to the competition season and we followed it up well in Camden County."

The Coastal Cheer Classic was the second competitive cheerleading competition hosted by Richmond Hill High School in seven years. An estimated crowd of 800 watched 14 competitive cheerleading squads from around the region compete.

GHSA (www.ghsa.net) competitive cheerleading is judged on cheerleading fundamentals such as jumping, tumbling, partner stunts and pyramids, required elements for dance, cheer and chants and overall execution for showmanship, transition and technique.

The squad has four more meets before regionals and hopefully state. They are defending region champs this year as they have won region the past three years.
