Richmond Hill High School senior Jamie Stanberry will attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security in Washington, D.C. from Oct. 2-7. Stanberry was recommended to the forum because of his interest in national security as well as maintaining a B average.

The forum will introduce students to careers in national security, intelligence, the diplomatic corps and more.

The curriculum is based on real-world events and students use critical thinking, leadership and public speaking skills to tackle the complexity of national decision making as they examine how the U.S. plans for peace and prepares for crisis.

Students also participate in question and answer sessions with civilian policy makers and senior military officials. Past programs have included visits to several government institutors and military installations, such as the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Development Command at Quantico, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Naval Academy, a variety of embassies and many others.

Founded in 1992, the National Youth Leadership Forum is an educational organization established to help prepare extraordinary young people for their professional careers.

Stanberry, who attends Savannah Christian Church, plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice.

Monica A. James of Pembroke was recently named to the Dean’s List at North Florida Community College in Madison, Fla. for the summer 2007 term.

Jonathan Wiley of Richmond Hill recently earned a master of science in administration from Central Michigan University.
