Forrest P. Corbin of Richmond Hill’s Boy Scout Troop 400 and a sophomore at Richmond Hill High School was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout during a March 12 ceremony at Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church.
Corbin’s successful completion of all Eagle requirements was recognized during a board of review Dec. 23, 2010. His completion also coincides with the Boy Scouts 100 years of scouting anniversary.
Corbin, better known as Beau, started Scouts in the first grade as a Tiger, and now 10 years later has achieved the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He has earned 31 merit badges and the 50 miler pack, and is a certified Boy Scout of America (BSA) lifeguard. Positions within the troop Corbin has held include senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader, quarter master and assistant patrol leader.
During his path to Eagle, Corbin has been on numerous camping trips to state parks in Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia. He has attended BSA Camporees and camped at Paris Island Recruit Depot, S.C.
The high point in his scouting path was the trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. During his 14 day trip he visited an abbey, enjoyed a rafting trip on the Colorado River and hiked 64 miles through the Rocky Mountains of New Mexico to the peak called to Tooth of Time.
Corbin’s Eagle project was the construction of an obstacle course for the RHHS JROTC consisting of a balance beam, monkey bars and a climbing wall. This project is an asset to the JROTC in regards to training and fitness. The project cost of around $1,000 was raised through either donations or JROTC fundraisers. Corbin currently holds the rank of cadet sergeant in the JROTC.
As a Scout from Troop 400, Corbin continues to strive for yet greater goals. He and his fellow Scouts have recently formed a Venture Crew, in which he is currently president. Corbin also plans to continue his involvement in Troop 400 as a junior leader.
