The BCHS Ladyskins were busy this week with two region games against Savannah Country Day and Claxton High School and another matchup with county rival Richmond Hill.

On Tuesday, the Ladyskins fell 7-4 to Savannah Country Day, currently in the Region 3A first place position. Having lost the first game this season against the Lady Hornets, the Ladyskins were looking for a win this time around. Senior Ashley Barfield took the mound for the Redskins. The defenses of both teams controlled the game into the top of the third inning allowing no base runners to cross home plate.

A third inning hitting rally would put the Ladyskins on the board with a four run lead after senior Lindsay Seger reached first on a error. Freshman Bridgett Bacon slammed a line drive up the middle to advance Seger to second. Both runners advanced an extra base when the was bobbled by the Lady Hornets' centerfielder. Sophomore Samantha Howard singled into left field to score the runners.

An error on the left fielder after the hit allowed Howard to advance to second. Senior Meghan Shuman scored Howard on a double to left field and junior Rebecca Horton drove in the last run of the inning with a single to right field to score Shuman.

The Lady Hornets answered right back in the top of the fourth with their own rally that would end with three Hornet runs on the board and the Skins with only a single run lead. The Ladyskins finished the game without scoring any additional runs, having put the ball into play each inning only to have it handled by the Country Day defense who allowed only four Ladyskin batters to reach the bases in the remainder of the game. The Lady Hornets scored a single run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game and a seventh inning hitting rally with three hits and three runs would prove to be enough for the Lady Hornets.

Howard led the Ladyskins, going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

The Ladyskins traveled to Richmond Hill on Wednesday for the second meeting with the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Wildcats suffered a one run loss to the Ladyskins in the beginning of the season. Howard would pitch for the Ladyskins with Jena Reddick taking the mound for the Lady Wildcats. Reddick almost single-handedly shut down eight of the first 10 Ladyskins batters in three innings with seven strike outs and an assist on a throw to first.

The Lady Cats took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Melanie Goolsby scored the single Wildcat run of that inning.

Howard, after struggling in the first inning, regained her control and struck out five of the next six batters in the next two innings and assisted in putting out the remaining batter.

The Redskins led off the fourth inning with senior Tara Miles' single down the left field line. Miles took second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a bunt by Shuman. Shuman reached first safely when Reddick was unable to cleanly come up with the ball. Horton's sacrifice bunt scored Miles and advanced Shuman to second. Redskin freshman Amanda Williams reached first on a throwing error and was credited for the RBI as Shuman crossed home plate.

Williams would be the final run for the Redskins when she was batted in by Barfield, who slammed a deep fly double to left field. The Wildcats tied the score in the fifth inning, scoring two runs. The sixth proved to be unsuccessful for both teams.

It was then on to Claxton on Thursday for a 7 p.m. contest against the Lady Tigers. The Lady Redskins won 7-0 behind the pitching of Barfield, who scattered three hits while striking out 10 Tiger batters. Leading hitters for the Redskins included Bacon who went 3 for 4 with an RBI followed by Horton who went 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The Ladyskins will celebrate Senior Day in their last home game Tuesday against region opponent Emanuel County Institute at 4:30 and it is on to Calvary on Thursday at 4:30.
