In commemoration of Georgia Arbor Day and to mark its 10th anniversary, Coastal Bryan Tree Foundation volunteers will plant 52 trees at 9 a.m. Saturday at Henderson Park off Hwy. 144 on Capt. Matthew Freeman Drive in South Bryan.

Anyone interested in helping should come to the park and – if possible – bring a shovel.

After Saturday, foundation volunteers will have planted nearly 600 trees, mostly live oaks, in Bryan County. In the past, trees have been planted along Ford Avenue, in J.F. Gregory Park, at the schools and at locations throughout the community. The live oaks along Hwy. 144 were among the first the organization planted in 2002.

This year’s addition will make more than 250 trees added to Henderson Park, and there are plans for more trees to be planted in the future.

Trees for Saturday’s planting were donated by Coastal Electric Cooperative.
Formed in 2001, the mission of the Coastal Bryan Tree Foundation is to plant, promote and protect tree canopy, particularly live oak trees.

In addition to planting and maintaining trees, the Coastal Bryan Tree Foundation has worked with city and county governments on the development and adoption of tree ordinances for Richmond Hill and Bryan County.

For more information about the planting, visit the foundation’s website at www.coastalbryantreefoundation.org or call Wendy Bolton at 727-2544.
