Wendy Sims wants more children in South Bryan to have access to free lunches when school is not in session.

She’s the director of Bryan County Family Connection (BCFC), which administers a free summer lunch program. This year, she’s working to open more sites in Richmond Hill and South Bryan where eligible children can pick up a free lunch during the summer months.

“We know there are children in certain areas that can qualify, and the need is there,” Sims said.

There are currently 16 sites in Bryan County where children under age 18 can get the free summer lunch. But only one of those sites is in Richmond Hill, on Dixie Road, Sims said.

BCFC will host two information sessions next month on the summer lunch program. The South Bryan meeting is at 6 p.m. March 14 at the Stevens Wetland Center in J.F. Gregory Park in Richmond Hill. The North Bryan meeting is at 6 p.m. March 15 at the Dixie Harn Community Center in Pembroke.

The sessions are open to anyone wanting to learn more about the program, hosting a site or becoming a site supervisor. Attendees can also pick up a site application.
