Richmond Hill finished its long journey through the ranks of Region 2-AAAA on Saturday by defeating Statesboro 52-48 in the championship game. It was the Wildcats fourth consecutive winning game of the tournament that started with them as the sixth seed.

Statesboro's JaQwan Raymond (18 points) tied the score after being fouled attempting a 3-point shot, The Blue Devil senior standout stole an inbound pass and after he made all three free throws, what had looked like a likely Richmond Hill victory turned in to what looked like a likely overtime period.

Instead, the Wildcats quickly pushed the ball up court and it found Brandon Jordan who made a spinning jump shot as the buzzer sounded and gave his team the lead back. Richmond Hill fans ran on to the court but had to be cleared as it was determined that 1.5 seconds still remained and Statesboro had been called for a technical foul.

The Wildcats used the extra possesion to salt the game away.

Richmond Hill's Lorenza Ross and DAngelo Johnson led their team with 14 points each.

Prior to the last second drama Johnson stole the ball from Raymond at half court and was fouled trying to convert the turnover. RHHS coach William Altman called it the biggest play of the game.

"Jordan really struggled a little offensively but there couldn't be two bigger points than at the end. But the biggest play was the steal by number 10, He (Johnson) stepped it up against Effingham and he did it again tonight."

Richmond Hill used a suffocating man defense to against the Blue Devils drawing charging fouls on several occasions to disrupt the opposing offense.

The Wildcats improved to 21-8 and will now host a first round game of the state tournament Saturday.
